SMART ICE is a compact universal machine control capable of controlling a broad range of industrial machinery.
Three key premises were responsible for driving the engineering vision that ultimately culminated in the creation of SMART ICE. First, SMART ICE should combine versatility with an intuitive, user-friendly interface. Second, SMART ICE should leverage a modular design that makes it possible to offer customers from many different industries a reliable control device with short development times that could be easily tailored to needs of individual customers. Third, SMART ICE should keep series production costs as low as possible while still offering cost transparency.

dataschalt engineers have given SMART ICE a hardware and software profile that makes for extremely versatile operation and an intuitive user experience. The controller’s modern housing is home to a powerful processor and 128 MB of SDRAM, as well as 256MB of NAND Flash memory. USB, Ethernet 10/100 T-Base and RS 232 interfaces are standard and additional interfaces as RS 485, CAN, AC 97, I2C, SPI can be easily added during the development phase. Support for a wide-range of input voltages from 12 to 48 VDC and a network-based PoE power supply option make it possible to deploy SMART ICE virtually anywhere. To create an intuitive user interface, dataschalt has equipped the SMART ICE with a 7� TFT Touch Display that leverages a powerful LINUX-based operating system to support simple intuitive operation and a wide range of customer-specific functions. Because the user interface is available in a variety of languages, machinery manufacturers who choose SMART ICE are able to market and sell their machinery to a global customer base without having to undertake further adaptation of the control system.

SMART ICE is based on a system of standardized modular components that can be easily and quickly combined to meet virtually any application profile. This significantly shortens development times for new customers eager to use SMART ICE as the control system for their machines. By using predefined software libraries, the software that drives SMART ICE can also be quickly and easily adapted to specific applications. This modular approach significantly reduces a customer’s time to market. And in the very near future SMART ICE users will have access to SPS features that make it easy to perform simple onsite functional adaptations at actual customer locations.

IIn contrast to other universal machine control solutions, series production costs for SMART ICE are both precise and transparent at the very beginning
of the development phase. Because of the system’s modular character, individual hardware elements can be priced and combined to create a customer-specific SMART ICE. Elements from the software library are combined in much the same way to create a platform that meets each customer’s
required software functionality. For high-volume customers who require a wide range of control systems on an annual basis, dataschalt provides individualized “redesign to cost� services that further reduce series production costs.
